This is Tom Hardy, the Old English Bulldog.

And this is Tom Hardy completely destroying a stuffed toy literally seconds after getting it.

There goes $6 down the drain.

As a doggy parent of a power chewer, you know the frustration of spending a lot of money on toys you hope will last.

Most dogs will chew—especially puppies. Many dogs grow out of it or are trained to stop chewing. However, some dogs and certain breeds continue their oral fixation into adulthood. For example, Tom Hardy won’t go to bed without a ball in his mouth.

Chewing, when appropriate, isn’t bad behavior. It’s bad when mom and dad are spending way too much money on replacing dog toys. Not all dogs will destroy their toys and it has nothing to do with size. Dogs chew out of boredom, anxiety, curiosity, high energy, or just because they like it. Some dogs chew gently, without ever ruining their toys. Others chew so aggressively that they break almost everything they chew on. These dogs are called aggressive, power or strong chewers. Rottweilers, Mastiffs and Pit Bulls are generally aggressive chewers.

For aggressive chewers, toys need to be tough, as well as safe. Many power chewers tend to swallow the broken pieces which can cause serious harm.

Tom Hardy’s mom has found these toys to be not only his favorites but seriously durable.
Of course, every dog is going to be different and nothing is guaranteed to be 100% indestructible, but these five dog toys have lasted longer than others.

Best Dog Toys for Aggressive Chewers

Kong Wubba
Tom Hardy’s absolutely most favorite toy in the world is the Kong Wubba. He shakes it, tosses it, chews it and plays tug. It is made of reinforced nylon and has two rubber balls inside with a squeaker. There are reports that some dogs have torn the outer material off, but Tom Hardy is going on over two years now without any ripping.

Gnawsome dog ball
Tom Hardy’s second favorite toy is a spiked rubber ball. These come in various sizes, prices and durability, depending on the brand, but the Gnawsome tend to last longer than most. They light-up, squeak and the spikes feel good because they massage his gums. Made of food-grade, BPA-free materials, these balls are cool, because the dog can entertain itself and you guys can also play fetch together.

Hide a Squirrel
As evidenced by the video above, power chewers need stuffing-free toys, however, two years later, the main part of this toy is still going strong and surprisingly, there is still one squirrel left of the original purchase! These interactive plush toys come in a variety of sizes and different critters, and are a lot of fun for your dog to discover. If you lose any of the critters, Amazon has replacements.

KONG Classic Large
The Classic Kong is a doggy toy icon! Made of incredibly durable hard rubber, you can stuff it with treats and entertain your dog for ages. It bounces erratically and comes in a variety of sizes. Tom Hardy has had his Kong since a young pup and it is still like new.

West Paw Hurley Bone
Though West Paw products are a tad pricer, the company does offer a one-time free replacement if yours is destroyed. They are non-toxic and latex-, BPA- and Phthalate-free. They float, are made in the U.S.A and you can even throw them in the dishwasher. It’s a durable chew and retrieval toy.

It’s always a gamble when you purchase a toy for a strong chewer. You never know which ones will last and which ones will go in the trash. Hopefully, you find a few that your dog will love and that this post helped!
