This is the Best NIJ Certified, Made in USA, BulletProof Vest in the World

Life in the United States is not getting any safer. There are more people, pollution, cars, germs and guns than ever in human history. You can be partially protected from some of these things using common sense, healthy dietary practices, seatbelts and…bulletproof vests.

Who Uses Bulletproof Vests?

Many people think bulletproof vests are for ‘other’ professionals. And yes, law enforcement, first responders, military, private security, armored truck drivers, process servers, social workers, bank employees, convenience store clerks and Girls Scouts in the ghetto might be in greater danger of gunfire than your average accountant, but that doesn’t mean everyone shouldn’t do everything possible to come back to their families safely each evening!

According to the International Association of Police Chiefs, bulletproof vests have been issued to officers in various jurisdictions for the past 60 years. To date, it is estimated the lives of over 3,000 law enforcement officers have been saved by bulletproof vests. This number does not take into account countries other than the USA, civilian and military lives.

Currently, bulletproof vests can be sold to anyone in the United States online or through the mail. The only exceptions are convicted felons, particularly people convicted of violent crimes. For the majority of them, they can never purchase a vest, or, depending on their conviction and the judge’s orders, they may need to complete their parole or probation before becoming eligible.

Another exception is residents of Connecticut, who can only purchase a bulletproof vest in-person. People outside of the United States cannot purchase bulletproof vests from American companies and have them shipped internationally.

Can Bulletproof Vests Really Protect You?

The National Institute of Justice is an agency within the Department of Justice that tests and certifies bulletproof vests. They evaluate ballistic levels of protection, panels, body armor plates, plate pockets and blunt force trauma effects, among other things. Based on how protective a certain vest or plate is, it will be issued an NIJ certification of Level II, IIIA, III, IVA or IV.

Level IV is the highest level of current bulletproof vest, stopping virtually all AR/AK rounds.

The average person does not understand the destructive ability of modern handguns and rifles. Most handguns can penetrate numerous layers of drywall, metal paneling, plywood and other common bullet obstacles.

Naturally, a bulletproof vest will not 100% mitigate the devastating effects of a bullet. However, using Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWP), a vest will disperse the energy of across a larger surface area. Where there once might have been a hole in your chest from a gunshot, now there might be deep bruising and broken ribs.

In the past, most vests were made from Kevlar. The issue is that Kevlar is heavy, expensive and difficult to manufacture. More modern companies are using UHPMW, and there are even ongoing experiments to test the viability of graphene, a miraculously strong material.

It is worth to note that a bulletproof vest will only protect the area it covers. This is usually the heart and lungs, plus the other vital organs within your ribcage. There are some bulletproof helmets and other sorts of riot gear that extend to your limbs, but the most important areas are obviously the torso and head.

How much do bulletproof vests cost?

The majority of bulletproof vests on the market cost north of $1000. They are usually bulky, stiff and extremely hot to wear under clothes. Most vests won’t give you a natural, casual or discreet appearance and don’t provide adjustable straps. Some vests won’t accommodate ‘add-ons’ like additional ballistic panels, ballistic protection and groin protectors.

One reason the cost of bulletproof vests remains high is because police departments are willing to pay that much. They get a deal from the federal government called the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Program which pays 50% of the cost of a bulletproof vest for any peace officer. For this reason, individuals who want to buy a vest and aren’t peace officers may feel like they have been left out in the cold.

Here at BestinBunch, we’ve found a brand that does all these things at a very reasonable price-point, and that company is BulletSafe.

The cornerstone of BulletSafe appears to be their NIJ-Certified, Made-in-USA Level IIIA Bulletproof Vest. Level IIIA is ‘soft body armor’ that protects from all calibers of handgun up to .44 Magnum. It is also stab proof and slash-proof, so correctional officers might find these especially appealing.

The company provides a ‘Size Chart’ to help customers easily figure out which size would fit best BUT that is not what convinced us here at BestinBunch. The most astounding thing about these vests is they are $299.

$299 is a flat rate, plus tax. There’s no fuss, no muss and nothing more to pay.

$299 is a remarkably affordable price for a Level IIIA bulletproof vest. This amazing price-point puts this piece of vital protection into the hand of lower-income workers who desperately need that protection without sacrificing next month’s rent.

On average, the lifespan of a bullet proof vest is 5 years. They can be washed like other garments, but the ballistic plates should never be exposed to water if it can be avoided.

However, BulletSafe makes more than just the highest quality vests.

BulletSafe has a very large variety of products. We’re talking bulletproof shields, bandanas, caps, crotch protectors, K9 vests and additional ballistic plates to upgrade your vest to a Level IV, which protects from the most common rifle calibers (AR-15s and AK-47s).

Backpack Panel

BulletSafe also makes a high-versatile ‘backpack panel’. This is a ballistic panel that can provide protection from certain handgun calibers, projectiles and shrapnel. It can be discreetly inserted into a backpack, briefcase, satchel or other small space to provide extra protection when lead starts flying.
